To advocate for the excellent quality of Taichung's fresh loquats and seasonal agricultural products, the Agriculture Bureau of the Taichung City Government has provided guidance to the Xinshe District Farmers’ Association. They recently held the 2024 Taichung City Premium Loquat and Agricultural Specialties Showcase and Sales Event at the Taipei Hope Plaza Farmer Market on March 30th and 31st. This event aimed to present the finest loquats, Murcott oranges, mushrooms, honey, vegetables, and coffee, along with other top-notch agricultural products from Taichung, to the residents of Taipei.
The Agriculture Bureau noted that there're numerous top-quality agricultural products benefit by favorable environment in Taichung City. Spring marks the peak season for loquat production. Taichung City has approximately 754 hectares of loquat cultivation area, with an annual yield of about 5,036 metric tons, making it the largest loquat-producing region countrywide.The harvesting season from mid-February to early April. Taichung's loquats are renowned for their golden hue, succulent flesh, and delightful aroma, with those from the Toutian and Erlian areas of Xinshe District, the Toubian Mountain area of Taiping District and the Dakeng Mountain area being especially esteemed.
General Manager Luo Wen-cheng of the Xinshe District Farmers' Association highlighted that loquats are a high-value crop with strong local roots and significant competitiveness as a fruit. Xinshe’s loquats are grown at altitudes ranging from 800 to 1,000 meters in the Toutian and Erlian areas(頭櫃及二櫃地區) , characterized by a cool climate and large temperature gap between day and night, making these area ideal for loquat cultivation. The loquats produced there are known for their large size, appealing color, distinctive texture, and a sweetness level exceeding 11 degrees, making them highly favored and praised by consumers who have had the opportunity to taste them.
The Agriculture Bureau also noted that due to large temperature gap between day and night this year, the loquats from Taichung have a higher sweetness, larger size, and more juiciness, with better quality. Those who love eating delicious loquats should definitely seize this opportunity to make purchases. Additionally, to celebrate Taichung City's population exceeding 2.85 million, any residents whose ID number contains any 2 of the digits 2, 8, 5 can redeem a limited edition loquat doll (while supplies last) on the opening day. Don’t miss this annual loquat feast!
On March 30th, the loquat marketing event opening ceremony was attended by Executive Officer Chang Jung-chi of the Taichung City Government, Director Chen Ying of the Taichung Office, Central Region Branch, Agriculture and Food Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, General Manager Lo Wen-cheng of the Xinshe District Farmers' Association, Secretary Chao Chia-yu of the New Taipei City Farmers' Association, and Director Ting, Wen-yuh of the National Training Institute for Farmers' Organizations.
