GAP (Good Agriculture Practice)

Taichung City is an important production area of economic vegetables and fruits in Taiwan, the cultivation area reach 24 thousand hectares, and farmers in the city cultivate economic Taiwan fruits like loquat,lychee,peach,pear, persimmon,honeyapple,citrus,grape,longan,carambola, etc., mushrooms like Pleurotus eryngii, Flammulina velutipes, Lentinus edodes, Agrocybe cylindracea, Agaricus bisporus, etc. and vegetables like greenbamboo shoots,Taiwan giant bamboo shoots,bitter gourd,taro,sweet potatoes, chives, potatoes, etc.Since GAP (agricultural products pesticide residue monitoring and control project) safe vegetables & fruits certification was introduced in 1994, 228 groups have been certified and 2,831 producers use the “GAP” logo, the certification number of Taichung is the highest in Taiwan. Producing safe and high-quality agricultural products has been an important agricultural policy of Taichung.

Pesticide residue is the issue that customers concern most. With the efforts made by the government and the cooperation of farmers, the qualified rate of pesticide residue has reached 98% presently. However, since pesticide residue is not able to be seen and be smelled, customers had repeatedly requested to put a “safe pesticide application” logo on vegetables and fruits for choice and recognition. In addition, lots of farmers had requested that except for banning disqualified agricultural products, the government should give incentives to farmers whose comply pesticide safety regulations. For the aforementioned purpose, GAP logo was designed and strict assessment procedures were established for vegetable and fruit production and sale groups to apply. The logo represents product safety and the honor of farmers, customers can purchase and enjoy the products assuredly.

Description of GAP logo

1. “GAP” is the transliteration of the abbreviation of GOOD AGRICULTURE PRACTICE, and the font is blue.
2. The two leaves are green (represent agriculture).
3. The three circles are red and represent that the product was counseled, examined and regulated.
4. A nine-digit identification number is printed under the logo to identify and trace the producer of GAP vegetables and fruits.

The logo is recomposed to three sizes (large, medium and small, the size is 7cm, 5cm and 2cm respectively) in proportion to the initial logo to apply to different packages (boxes) or even smaller sizes to stick on agricultural products.
