Strolling Through Flower Fields and Pulling Radishes, A Parent and Child Outing to Experience Slow Rural Living

With spring warmth and blossoms in full bloom, and flower fields at their peak, to welcome the Lunar New Year, the Agriculture Bureau of Taichung City Government (hereinafter as "The Agriculture Bureau") guided the Wuri District Farmers’ Association (烏日區農會) to hold the “Stroll Through Flower Fields, Pull Radishes for Fun(「漫步花田 拔蘿蔔趣」)” event at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the farmland next to No. 81, Qingguang Road, Wuri District. The Participation public rolled up their sleeves and stepped into the fields, pulling plump, tender white radishes from the soil by hand. Through the event, participation public link “agriculture”, “food”, and “environmental education”, learn through hands on experience, enjoy the fun of the fields, get closer to the land, experience the hard work of farmers, and enhance recognition of and participation in the agricultural industry.
The Agriculture Bureau stated that the peak radish season runs from November to February or March of the following year. Although radishes are available throughout the year, winter radishes are at their best, and the entire plant is edible. Families with children and the public are invited to step into the fields and, by pulling radishes by hand, experience the harvesting process firsthand, further strengthening public recognition of and participation in the agricultural industry, while also enjoying the rural countryside and appreciating the hard work of farmers. Today’s event also features a variety of hands on craft and arts activities, including “Sushi DIY” using local ingredients, where participants can roll their own delicious sushi. The “Therapeutic Mini Planter DIY” activity, through creating plant arrangements, offers a relaxing green healing experience and is highly popular with the public. The artistic atmosphere on the day of the event also added highlights. A portrait sketch artist was invited to draw on the spot for participants, leaving them with a one of a kind keepsake. The “Field Sketching” activity allowed the participant of the public who enjoy painting to sit by the flower fields and use brushes to capture the natural scenery, enjoying a moment of slow living. The venue also invited local young farmers to set up stalls to sell fresh agricultural products and processed goods, promoting agricultural marketing and increasing consumption, thereby driving local agricultural development, raising farmers’ income, and creating a lively and warm festive atmosphere for the rural New Year season. Legislator Yen Kuan-heng (立法委員顏寬恒), and Taichung City Councilors Chiung-Hua Wu and changjiaan (臺中市議員吳瓊華、張家銨) attended the event in person. In addition, Director Man-Ching Wang of the Taichung Management Office, Irrigation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture (農業部農田水利署台中管理處處長王曼菁); the section chief Yu-Chen Huang of the Farmers’ Association Support and Agri-tourism Division, Agriculture Bureau (農業局農業輔導休閒農業科科長) ; District Director Chung-Yi Lin of the Wuri District Office Taichung City (烏日區公所區長林崇懿) ; and Chairman Chou-Sen Wei (烏日區農會理事長魏周森), Executive Supervisor Wen-Ching Yang (常務監事楊文慶), and General Manager Han-Chiang Chang of the Wurih Farmers’ Association (總幹事張漢強) also attended.
