March is the peak harvest season for Taiping loquats. To help the public better understand loquats, which have a short harvest season and are delicate fruits, the Agriculture Bureau of Taichung City Government guided the Taiping District Office in holding the “2026 Taiping loquat festival press conference” at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Dahutung loquat orchard (大湖桶枇杷園), officially announcing to people across the country that Taiping loquats, known for their golden color, delicate texture, and juicy flesh, are now on the market. Members of the public who enjoy loquats are encouraged to buy local and eat seasonal produce while the fruit is in season. This year’s Taiping loquat festival, jointly organized by the Taiping District Office and the Taiping District Farmers’ Association, will launch a series of loquat promotion and marketing activities beginning on March 14. The District Office will first present "Loquat FUN City" and the "Loquat blessing hike", followed by the Taiping District Farmers’ Association with the "Loquat evaluation meeting", "Loquat industry and cultural activities", and "Agri-tourism in Taiping and food and agricultural education" (loquat tree adoption and fruit-picking fun, red bell peach tree adoption, blueberry picking fun, and handmade plant-dyed square scarf activities), along with a series of related marketing events. Through the press conference, these series of activities will also be promoted to introduce Taiping’s high-quality, delicious, nutritious, and safe loquats and local agricultural specialty products to people across the country. The public is warmly welcome to participate, purchase, and enjoy them. The Agriculture Bureau stated that the economic cultivation of loquats in Taiwan originated during the Japanese colonial period, when Japanese varieties such as Tanaka and Mogi were introduced for trial cultivation in Toubiankeng in this district (太平區頭汴坑). The planting results proved quite favorable, and the cultivation area gradually expanded. As a result, Taiping District has also earned the reputation of being the "hometown of loquats". The loquat cultivation area in Taiping District covers approximately 132.5 hectares. The loquats produced in the area are large in shape, golden in color, juicy in flesh, and sweet in taste, and are also among the first seasonal fruits to be harvested in early spring. Those who would like to be among the first to taste the most authentic and delicious loquats may place orders directly with the Taiping District Farmers’ Association at 04-22781148. By doing so, members of the public can support the sustainable operation of local farmers in a concrete way, and the loquats are ideal for both gift-giving and personal use. At the event, Councilor Chia-Tien Huang(黃佳恬議員), Councilor Yu-Yen Chang(張玉嬿議員), and Councilor Yao-Chieh Tsai(蔡耀頡議員), Senior Technical Specialist Chun-Liang Lin of the Agriculture Bureau of Taichung City Government, and Taiping District Chief Po-Hung Chen attended in person.
