Gaomei Wetlands is one of Taiwan’s important coastal wetlands, home to rich biodiversity and valuable ecological resources. To promote wetland conservation and deepen public understanding of the natural environment and ecological conservation work, the Agriculture Bureau of Taichung City Government ( hereinafter as" the Agriculture Bureau" ) has commissioned Tunghai University to plan and organize the “Gaomei Wetlands Ecological Guided Tour”. The program features seven daytime guided tours and one nighttime land crab conservation experience, with registration open from today. Residents are invited to visit Gaomei Wetlands and, through professional guided interpretation, gain a deeper understanding of wetland ecology while taking part in nature conservation action.
The Agriculture Bureau said Gaomei Wetlands has significant ecological conservation value as both a national important wetland and the Gaomei Wetlands Wildlife Refuge. It is also an important site for migratory birds, intertidal species, and the maintenance of diverse ecosystems. The event focus on “understanding wetlands, connecting with nature, and practicing conservation”. Professional instructors will guide participants in observing the wetland environment, learning about intertidal species, and understanding wetland conservation management. Through first-hand experience, participants can gain deeper insight into the importance of wetland ecosystems and further turn conservation awareness into environmentally friendly actions in daily life.
The Agriculture Bureau explained that, to allow residents and nature lovers to get closer to Gaomei Wetlands and experience its abundant vitality and natural scenery, daytime guided tours will be held on Sunday, August 16; Sunday, August 23; Saturday, September 5; Sunday, September 13; Sunday, September 20; Sunday, October 4; and Saturday, October 17, for a total of seven sessions. In coordination with the annual land crab breeding season, a nighttime land crab conservation experience has been specially planned for Saturday, August 29, with around 24 participants accepted. The activity will guide participants in observing land crab activity at night, learning about their ecological habits, breeding behavior, and current environmental threats, and experiencing land crab conservation patrol work, so they can help protect the valuable ecological resources of Gaomei Wetlands. The Agriculture Bureau reminded visitors that Gaomei Wetlands are located within the Gaomei Wetlands Wildlife Refuge. Visitors must comply with relevant conservation and control regulations during their visit and work together to protect the ecological environment of the refuge. In addition, to reduce carbon emissions from transport during the activities, participants are encouraged to use carpooling or public transportation, putting the concepts of low-carbon travel and environmental friendliness into practice.
