To enhance public awareness of agricultural production, maintain food safety, and preserve agricultural heritage, the agricultural Bureau of Taichung City Government(hereinafter as "the agriculture bureau") has dedicated to promoting food and agricultural education. The agriculture bureau has assisted the Feng Yuan District Farmer's Association in organizing a range of family-friendly activities in post-harvest rice fields, integrating the spirit of food and agricultural education. These activities include: Earth Oven Experience and Creative Scarecrow Arrangements, Treasure Hunt - Sweet Potato and Corn Harvesting, Fun with Plowing - Traditional Ox Plowing Experience, Rice Food DIY, Mini Scarecrow DIY, Home Economics Group Cooking Exhibition and Sale (stir-fried rice noodles, thick rice noodles, shredded sweet potato rice, etc.), and Small Farmers' Market - Fresh Agricultural Products from Young Farmers. These activities aim to integrate the concept of "Farm-to-table" into food and agricultural education, strengthening the connection between people, agriculture, food, and the environment, and fostering a deeper understanding for future generations.
To promote the premium image of Taichung’s local high-quality rice and introduce a variety of rice dishes, a series of activities are planned under the theme "Local Production for Local Consumption, Understanding Local Food." These activities include creative scarecrow arrangements, mini scarecrow DIY, rice food DIY, and the exhibition and sales of diverse rice cuisine, promoting the consumption of local rice food and domestically produced rice. Furthermore, through interactive activities like harvesting sweet potatoes and corn, and parent-child ox plowing experiences, participants can learn about food origins and traditional farming culture, appreciating the farmers' efforts and the joy of harvest, thus fostering a deeper connection with the land. A food safety maze challenge is also set up on-site to educate the public on proper food safety concepts through games. This weekend, just as the summer break begins, participants went out with their family, away from electronic devices and air-conditioned spaces, and stepped into rice fields to relive the joy of rural childhood memories.
