Agriculture Bureau Lantern Festival Installation - Mystic Ripples
The 2025 Central Taiwan Lantern Festival will take place from February 8 to February 23 at Taichung Central Park, featuring a spectacular showcase of light and creativity. This year, the Taichung City Agriculture Bureau presents a unique lantern display themed "Sustainable Ocean Fantasy Adventure", blending science fiction, magic, and fantasy to create a fantastical oceanic journey. The installation incorporates recycled materials, promoting environmental consciousness while aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14: Life Below Water.
Taichung City Agriculture Bureau Director Chang Ching-chang emphasized that the lantern display is designed to educate and inspire. While admiring the artistic brilliance of the lanterns, visitors will also be encouraged to reflect on the importance of ocean conservation and learn practical ways to reduce pollution and combat climate change, inviting everyone to take an active role in protecting our planet.
Climate change, global warming, and environmental pollution are taking a toll on the ocean, causing irregular tides and declining marine vitality. According to legend, the Sun and Moon Gods, guardians of the tides, have appeared in a radiant glow to guide humanity on an oceanic quest. Visitors will embark on an immersive marine adventure, traversing breathtaking yet fragile ocean landscapes. Through this journey, they will witness the beauty and vulnerability of the sea, gain insights into reducing pollution and mitigating climate change, and be inspired to take action to preserve biodiversity. The experience is designed to empower every visitor to become a guardian of the ocean, protecting marine life through concrete action.
According to the Agriculture Bureau, the lantern display is designed with a narrative-driven concept, seamlessly weaving together the beauty of the ocean and pressing environmental issues. Visitors will embark on a journey through captivating installations, each highlighting a different aspect of marine conservation. In "Interstellar Voyage," they will encounter a sea turtle struggling amidst plastic pollution. "Luminous Coral Path" showcases the radiant vibrancy of coral reefs, while "Dimensional Halo" immerses visitors in a mesmerizing swarm of drifting jellyfish. "Phantom Abyss" serves as an educational hub, offering insights into marine conservation efforts. The "Mystic Ripples" and "Crystal Guardian" installations symbolize hope and action in ocean preservation, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainable development.
Furthermore, the lantern artworks creatively incorporate recycled ocean debris, such as plastic and driftwood, breathing new life into discarded objects and reinforcing eco-conscious messaging. Additionally, the experience is enhanced with augmented reality (AR) technology, allowing visitors to scan QR codes for interactive marine ecology content, making learning both engaging and immersive.
The Taichung City Agriculture Bureau warmly invites the public to take part in this extraordinary fusion of art, education, and environmental advocacy. As the festival coincides with the Lunar New Year holiday, the event team is committed to ensuring on-site safety measures, and visitors are encouraged to follow all safety guidelines while enjoying this magical ocean-themed adventure.
