The Taipei Golden Eagle Micro Movie Festival, organized by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), is dedicated to promoting sustainable development, encouraging businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to showcase their commitment to social responsibility and sustainability through micro movies. According to the Taichung City Government’s Agriculture Bureau, this year’s festival partnered with the Asia-Pacific Forum & Exposition for Sustainability, calling on all sectors to tell stories of sustainability through films—stories that inspire, move, and drive change. Among the many submissions, the micro film Modernizing Pig Farming: Moving Forward Together, produced by the Taichung City Swine Production and Marketing Class 3, stood out for its heartfelt portrayal of the industry's modernization journey. The film received high acclaim, earning the Bronze Award at the 9th Taipei Golden Eagle Sustainable Micro Movie Festival in 2025.
According to the Agriculture Bureau, the film centers on Gaodeng Livestock Farm (高登畜牧場) in Taichung City, documenting its transformation from a traditional livestock operation into a modern pig farm that integrates smart technology, eco-friendly facilities, and animal welfare practices. This shift challenges the prevailing stereotypes of pig farming as dirty, smelly, and labor-intensive. Modernizing Pig Farming: Moving Forward Together not only illustrates the industry's innovation but also conveys the warmth and perseverance of farmers, allowing audiences to witness their dedication and value in the pursuit of sustainability. The line, “Transformation is both an act of inheritance and a responsibility to society,” captures the core intention behind agricultural transformation.
The Agriculture Bureau noted that the Swine Production and Marketing Class 3, one of the organizations that has long received guidance from the Taichung City Government, is based in Waipu District of Taichung City. Actively supporting the city government's livestock modernization policies, the class has become a model for the transformation of the pig farming industry across Taichung. The award-winning film Modernizing Pig Farming: Moving Forward Together not only authentically portrays the industry's journey of advancement but also reflects the farm’s deep understanding of social responsibility and sustainable values.
The Agriculture Bureau also noted that in recent years, the Taichung City Government has actively promoted the upgrading of livestock farm facilities. Initiatives include the adoption of enclosed, high-bed pig houses with evaporative cooling systems, the implementation of smart and automated labor-saving equipment, and the use of biogas slurry and residue as fertilizer for farmland. These measures aim to mitigate the impacts of climate change on agriculture while enhancing the environmental performance and resource efficiency of the livestock industry. Gaodeng Livestock Farm (高登畜牧場) stands out as one of the most exemplary demonstration sites, achieving the transformation of livestock farming and the goals of agricultural net-zero emissions and sustainable circular practices.
