To encourage the public to visit rural areas and invigorate the local agricultural industry, the Taichung City Government’s Agriculture Bureau has launched a brand-new one-day tour — “TAICHUNG’s Finest: Taro, Terroir & Winery Experience in Da’an district(大安區),” which took place on Saturday, October 18. Centered on the charm of Taichung’s coastal region, the event combines visits to local wineries, industry tours, and ecological explorations, offering participants an immersive experience of cuisine, wine, and artisanal craftsmanship in Da’an district.
The tour began at the ABAS Distillery Story Hall(安貝斯釀酒故事館), where visitors gained firsthand insight into the brewing process of locally crafted spirits and appreciate the distillers’ unwavering commitment to solid-state fermentation using pure grains. The winery allows its liquors to ferment naturally for one and a half years—20 times longer than most commercially available products—solely to capture the purest flavor. Upholding traditional brewing methods passed down from the period of Japanese rule, the distillery adds no edible alcohol or artificial flavoring. Through the guided tour, participants truly appreciated the craftsmanship and time that go into creating a fine spirit.
For lunch, guests savored an authentic bowl of seafood porridge in Da’an district, a dish that highlights the natural sweetness of fresh local catch and reflects the warmth and simplicity of the fishing village. In the afternoon, they went to the Ah-Tsung-Shih Taro Culture Museum (阿聰師芋頭產業故事館), where visitors took part in an agri-food education experience. They learned how Taichung’s unique soil and climate cultivate the distinct aroma and texture of its taro, and enjoyed a hands-on experience tracing its journey from farm to table. The final stop took visitors to the Guike Community Ecological Park(龜殼社區生態公園), where professional guides led an exploration of the park’s rich biodiversity—from wetland plants to migratory birds—showcasing the harmonious coexistence of agriculture and fishery. The experience offered a profound appreciation of rural vitality and natural beauty in Da’an district.
According to the Agriculture Bureau, the “TAICHUNG’s Finest” winery experience series not only promotes Taichung’s high-quality local agricultural and fishery products but also encourages the public to connect with the land through immersive travel experiences. By engaging with local industries and culture, participants can feel the warmth of rural life and appreciate its sustainable values. The Bureau invites everyone to discover the captivating charm, rich terroir, and artisanal spirit that define Taichung’s countryside.
